Theseus Q2 Highlights

Hi GitLabbers!

Theseus has been rowing hard to get our platform’s first version to Pilot by the end of October. Before then, we wanted to highlight some key ships from last quarter. We’re excited to share this with you all, and want to recognize the good work that’s gone into bringing Theseus to life.

Recent highlights

GPT performance tests can now be run locally against Caproni with trustworthy results, since Caproni mirrors production’s images and Helm charts. Developers can profile their own branch on their laptop instead of provisioning a testbed or filing a Request for Help.

Kudos to Harsha Muralidhar.

Developers can now see production dashboards from their laptop. Prometheus and Grafana ship as an optional part of a Caproni cluster, serving the same runbooks dashboards used on .com and Dedicated. The same pattern was then extended to GitLab Knowledge Graph with Orbit’s dashboards, showing it generalises beyond the monolith.

Kudos to Brittany Wilkerson.

Performance testing expertise now ships as an AI skill — and measurably improves what agents produce. The self-service-performance-testing skill can be added when scaffolding a project from common-template-copier, and was expanded this quarter to cover rspec-benchmark and Ruby profilers. Its first eval baseline shows agents scoring 92.7% on performance questions with the skill.

Kudos to Vishal Patel.

Caproni can now connect to existing remote, cloud, or locally provisioned Kubernetes clusters and deploy configured workloads without managing the cluster lifecycle. The external-cluster driver was validated against a GitLab Sandbox Cloud cluster.

Kudos to Manuel Schönlaub.

AI Gateway and Duo Workflow Service now have edit-mode support in Caproni, giving AI teams a local development path for GitLab services.

Kudos to Nao Hashizume.

LabBench now enables quickstarting projects from spec to a running assembly — generating the repo, CI, Fairway manifest, and CODEOWNERS, then building OCI images for both Go and Rust. It’s early, but the full init → scaffold → build → deploy loop now works across both languages.

Kudos to Schmil Monderer and Lucas Charles.

Q3 focus

We’re primarily focused on shipping our v1 Pilot with AR+GATE and Orbit, and refining Theseus based on Pilot feedback. We’ll also start early GA platform work given the shortened Q4 and tight GA timeline ahead.

Thank you for all the support and interest in Theseus so far — we’re looking forward to continuing that partnership.

Don’t forget to check out go/theseus for additional information on our v1 and roadmap!

Row on, Elliot, Chris and Heather
