Program Snapshot: Oct 1 – Oct 15, 2026
Hi team, we’re T-minus 2 weeks until the Oct 30 Pilot! We’ve made great progress toward this milestone with our Pilot teams, while shipping new capabilities along the way. Check out all of the great work below.
Overall status
On track. On track for the Oct 30 Pilot and Jan 29 GA of Theseus Platform v1, with two of the three Pilot teams onboarded. No blockers expected before the next update.
Highlights
Get your own production-like GitLab on demand with Hangar. Built to work hand in hand with Caproni, Hangar gives any engineer an isolated remote GitLab on a shared cluster, with its own address and certificate, reachable only over VPN. Environments clean up after themselves — 24 hours by default, up to 30 days.
Kudos to Tiffany Rea and team for delivering phase 1.
Modular teams can now get a managed database on Theseus. Request one as part of service setup instead of building and running your own. It’s already proven by our reference services, and Redis is planned for GA.
Basic database migration tooling is complete end to end with Migrator.
It’s defined, shipped, documented and proven in production through our
go-service-template reference implementation, so every new service scaffolded
on Theseus gets database migrations with tracking and rollback out of the box.
Migrator now also runs on GKE and Cloud Run, and it gives Artifact Central
safer migrations that can be tested in CI and locally.
Shout out to Elliot Forbes for closing the first milestone of our DB migration tooling workstream.
Roll back to any previously deployed version on Runway v2. If a release goes wrong, return to the exact version that ran before instead of rebuilding an older one.
Kudos to Joshua Martin and the Runway team.
Start a Rust service with everything built in. The new
rust-service-template includes observability, deployment, database migrations
and local dev out of the box, just like our Go template.
Service teams can now build and test monitoring locally with Metropolis. Our new monitoring operator now ships in Caproni, so teams can test against a real GitLab before anything reaches production. It’s the first step toward teams owning their own monitoring.
Find the Orbit and Artifact Central API specs in one place on
api.gitlab.com/rest. Both update automatically when their source changes, and
other services can reuse the same setup to publish their own.
Kudos to Alberto Bignotti, Chance Feick and the API Platform team for delivering ahead of schedule.
All three Pilot teams now build and test with Caproni. Orbit now uses Caproni for local development and in CI, which shows the platform can support our newest modular components through active development.
Artifact Central (AC), GitLab’s first modular product, has onboarded onto Theseus. It’s the second team onboarded for the Pilot, and it validates the platform against a real, customer-facing service.
Kudos to João Pereira and the AC team for their strong partnership with the Theseus crew.
Callouts
Orbit, our last Pilot team, is on track for Oct 30. LabKit adoption and Caproni onboarding are done, and configuration management should wrap up by Oct 29.
Try Hangar today. Request access, then follow the runbook or run one command and you’ll have your environment within minutes. There’s a short demo (~15 min) for a quick intro — share feedback as you go.
Migrator is ready for more teams. Feature Gate is already trying GKE support, and AC plans to move over after its Self-Managed release. Want to be next? Start with the tutorial, and tell us what your team needs to help expand our tooling.
New Caproni dashboards are live, giving us real-time visibility into CLI health and error rates, along with adoption metrics like usage versus GDK and version spread. This gives us a measurable way to track Caproni adoption as more teams move onto Theseus. We’re currently working on similar dashboards for all Theseus components to monitor overall performance and health.
